The term for this practice is geolocation, and it can identify the location of an electronic device and forward this data to the store, if the user allows it. This makes it easy for consumers to find exclusive conditions for their location, and for retailers to create targeted and segmented campaigns.
The Codeby team developed the Regionalization App, which shows the products with conditions offered according to the customer's location. In addition, it is possible to show if a product is available in that region or available for pickup at the store, among other facilities for the customer.
About the need met by the functionality
The Regionalization App was developed to add the regionalization experience to e-commerce, allowing the consumer the choice of using their location to improve their experience and make it a little more personalized, all within the VTEX catalog.
In practice, the Regionalization App serves to show the products with conditions offered according to the customer's location, it is also possible to show whether a product is available in that region or available for pickup at the store among other facilities to the customer.
Throughout the store's environment, it is possible to see a pop-up on the top of the page, so that the client can choose to insert his locality and regionalize his experience inside the store.
The user can use this in two ways, the first would be by adding his location to have access to stores near his place. Or they can simply enter their location and have access to the products and values referring to their region.
About the development
To develop this functionality, our team used React to build components and integrations with Google and ViaCep's systems, this way we could bring a better experience when searching for the location by adding Google's Auto complete, for example.
For the App to work, it was necessary to integrate 2 external APIs for geolocation by IP and address search by zip code, with the VTEX session functionality. This way we were able to regionalize the user experience.
The app enables brands to initiate their omnichannel operation, as well as scale the brand's performance in the online and offline marketplace.
The Regionalization App for VTEX IO ensures that product information can be displayed according to regional rules, dynamically showing customers the option to enter their location.
The conversion of the site should increase considerably with this new function, reaching new users and offering more complete experiences. The application has the possibility to be implemented in all types of stores that work with a geolocation strategy.
