Every company needs a clear purpose. It was with this thought that 2 dreaming devs started a company, like Codeby in constant evolution.
It may seem trivial to put in three paragraphs the reason for a company to exist, or the essence and the dream that moves it to achieve a single goal. However, it is these simple paragraphs that will present to the world what your company is made of.
If you thought that this is a simple task, you are wrong. Creating the vision, mission and values of a company can be a task that requires a lot of time thinking.
And it was exactly in this thought process that we realized that everyone here needs to have that same dream that started with Victor and me when we started the company, that drive to overcome challenges or the determination to create ways to deal with them.
In this article I will tell you a little bit about how introducing vision, mission and values in your company helps to have a team always in harmony.
The mission is nothing more than a clear statement of your company's purpose and responsibility to the customer. Usually this is a characteristic that cannot be given up because of its extreme importance to the execution of the company's activities. To create a mission statement it is necessary that it answers some fundamental questions, such as
- What does the company do?
- How does the company do it?
- Why does the company exist?
- What is the role of the company in the market and society?
Defining a mission for your company aims to focus efforts and create a clear communication with your team and clients.
For example, our mission at Codeby is "To make our clients more profitable through technological solutions".
The vision is the description of the future that the company desires. This describes the goal to be pursued and executed by the individual efforts of each team member. The vision should be the aspiration and inspiration that moves everyone toward a single goal that must be realistic and visible. The questions to be asked here are:
- What does the company want to become?
- Where will we be?
- What will the company be?
- In which direction should all efforts be pointed?
The vision is one of the points that we had clearly from the start, when we were still three developers with many dreams. And this is what gave us the shape and motivation to work every day toward these dreams. This vision is still present at Codeby inspiring our whole team: "To become the largest reference company in the technology area with SASS solutions".
Values are a set of beliefs, the principles that define the company and serve as a guide for behavior, attitudes, and decision-making. Normally these beliefs help to build a team that has the same or similar values, avoiding divergences and possible misunderstandings in communication.
The values of a company serve as the basis for executing the mission and achieving the vision. In this way, these three simple paragraphs become very important items, not only to present your company to the world, but to inspire your team and make everyone to offer efforts for the same higher goal.
